How to Check the Positive and Negative Poles of a Button Battery?

How to Check the Positive and Negative Poles of a Button Battery?

Editorial:Phina Issue Date:2022-05-10 Views:33209

The button battery has won the praise of the public with its excellent volume advantage, high-cost performance, and excellent service life. Button batteries have also been widely used in daily life, such as car keys, TWS headphones, smartwatches, etc. How much do you know about button batteries? Do you check the positive and negative poles of the button battery when you replace the button battery every day?

For the positive and negative electrodes of the button battery, look at the + sign, the + sign indicates the positive electrode, and the - sign indicates the negative electrode. One side of the button battery is directly marked with the + sign, then this side is the positive electrode, and the other side is the negative electrode.

Check by the symbol "+"

Generally speaking, the button battery will have a relatively flat and smooth side and a convex side. On the smooth side, the model of the battery itself, the manufacturer, and the operating voltage of the battery will be printed. The button battery marked with + means the positive electrode of the battery, and this side is the positive electrode of the battery. In most cases, the flat, smooth side of a coin cell battery is the positive side. Then correspondingly, the other side is the negative electrode of the battery.

Check by the symbol "-"

The positive and negative poles of the button battery, see the model, the button battery is marked with the model, as shown in the figure, there are signs such as model, voltage, negative pole, etc., then it is the negative pole, otherwise, the positive pole is not marked.

Most button batteries have at least one side marked with a positive and negative sign "+" or "-"; of course, some are not marked, what should I do? The following continues to introduce 3 methods to distinguish the positive and negative of the button battery.

Check by the shape of the surface

The positive and negative electrodes of the button battery, look at the shape of the surface. If you look carefully, we can find that the front and back of the button battery are of different shapes. One side is flat, the other side is curved, and the surface is flat. Positive, arcuate is negative.

Check the special feature of the surface

The positive and negative electrodes of the button battery, the most special feature of the button battery are that one side is full of concave and convex points, the one with the concave and convex points is the negative electrode; the other side is smooth is the positive electrode.

Multimeter measurement discrimination

(1) Open the DC voltage gear.

(2) Use the red and black test pens of the multimeter to contact the two sides of the button battery respectively.

(3) When the displayed voltage value is positive, the red test lead of the multimeter is connected to the positive electrode, and the black test lead is connected to the negative electrode.

(4) When the displayed voltage value is negative, the black pen of the multimeter is connected to the positive pole, and the red pen is connected to the negative pole.

The above are 5 ways how to check the positive and negative poles of a button battery. In general, either look at the signs ("+, -") or look at the shapes. As a professional manufacturer of button battery R&D and manufacturing and can provide customized services, Grepow uses a lamination production process that is different from the traditional winding technology. Meanwhile, to help downstream customers avoid the risk of infringement, Grepow has accelerated the construction of a battery intellectual property protection system and has applied for 74 patents related to buckling batteries and obtained 42 authorizations. Its GRP1254 and GRP1054 button batteries are welcome with customers and widely used in TWS headphones, smart car keys, and other fields!
