How to use drones to extend life

Drones are a more sophisticated electronic device, and with frequent outdoor operations, their service life is limited. In order to ensure and extend its normal flight time and service life, in addition to ensuring normal operation in accordance with the specifications, the drone needs to be maintained frequently. The specific operation can be taken reference to the following.

Pre-flight preparations for drones

Careful inspection work

If you fly in the winter, you first need to check the temperature of the environment. When the temperature is below the design standard, you can’t take off. Secondly, check whether the electronic equipment of flight control is normal. Then check whether there is any cracking of the blade and shell of the drone to avoid uncontrollable phenomena after take-off.

Full warm-up work

The drone can be warmed up before you fly out. For example, if you’re traveling by car, you can keep the drone warm in the cabin to keep the temperature of the drone, saving warm-up time and power, and preheating the intelligent flight battery in advance. After take-off, hovering low for a while can also warm up. Meanwhile, in flight, do not use the battery too fully. Because in cold environment, it is likely that there will be a sudden power loss, if only 20-30% of the electricity left, it is very troublesome. But using a smart battery with BMS, you can alert the police in advance to avoid a crash.

Complete calibration work

Calibrating drones is one of the necessary preparations before take-off, including electric adjustment, horizontal alignment and compass calibration.

Please make sure to remove the blade before electric adjustment.

  • Push the throttle lever to the highest position, and the LED lamp indicates the current GPS status and flight status.
  • CH5 (mode channel) quickly switches back and forth between the lowest and highest positions for 6 to 10 times, and the LED light turns red.
  • Keep the throttle position unchanged, disconnect the main power supply, and then power up again. The LED light flashes red, green and blue in turn.
  • When the power is switched on for about 0.5 seconds, the motor will beep twice. Then pull the throttle lever to the lowest position within 2 seconds, and the LED light flashes red and blue alternately to enter the normal indication. After correct calibration and unlocking, the motor will idle in turn.

Horizontal calibration is the simplest calibration operation before the uav takes off.

  • Before the first test flight, put the plane on the horizontal ground and perform the external locking action for more than 10 seconds.
  • LIU blue and green lights turn on alternately, and then you can release the control lever of the remote control.
  • After about 10 seconds, LIU turns into a blue indicator light and flashes only. After about 15 seconds, LIU flashes normally, indicating successful calibration.

For compass calibration, it directly affects whether subsequent drones are flying smoothly.

  • Push the throttle lever to the lowest position.
  • Switch the CH5 switch back and forth rapidly between the lowest position and the highest position for about 6~10 times until the blue light of the status indicator is long and bright.
  • Forward the nose of the aircraft, place it horizontally, and then slowly rotate clockwise for at least one turn until the status indicator turns green.
  • Turn the aircraft nose down, the fuselage is vertical, and then slowly rotate clockwise for at least one turn until the status indicator is long and bright.

Precautions in drone take-off

Keep the drone in your field of vision

Control the drone’s flight path and make sure it’s within your view. This allows you to know the location of the drone at any time without accidentally hitting it onto an object. In an environment of buildings with obstacles, it is possible to influence your ability to control the drone’s physical and electromagnetic sources of interference to keep alerts. Here’s a cautionary tale. When a flying hand flies under a bridge in Taiwan, the signal drops and triggers its “back home” function. Unfortunately, this feature causes it to fly straight and hit the bottom of the bridge, then suddenly falls into the water below.

Reasonable flight altitude and place

Drones should not fly over someone’s home unless they are licensed and have good reason to do so. Don’t fly above 400 feet. The higher the drone flies, the more likely it is to start hitting things like airplanes and hang gliders. Drones can also get out of control because they are too far away and the signal is off the line. If you do find any aircraft nearby, be sure to follow them, especially since they won’t always see your drone.

Maintenance and maintenance of drones after use

After using the drone, it should also be maintained and stored.

Check the drone battery

Please check whether its drone battery swells after flying. Why is this operation number one? Because if the battery is swelled it can explode and catch fire, it is very important for the safety of the flyer himself and the safety of the drone. For a lithium battery of drone, its high C-rate discharge performance is popular with fly-forwards. But also by the lithium-ion materials and production process, easy to swell and burn.

Keep the drone clean and dry

If the drone is exposed to moisture or water during use, power off and dry the drone after use. Then put in the moisture-proof box to absorb the tide, determine the moisture removal and then use. In addition, dust has a large impact on drones, especially in sophisticated equipment such as motors. So try to avoid taking off from the gravel ground and clean the drone after each use.

Check the drone’s propellers

Check the integrity of the propeller. Although it is rare for a crash during normal use to break the blade, problems that hit obstacles due to visual errors or operation often occur. If you hit an obstacle, pay special attention to whether the blade has cracks, gaps and other problems affecting the flight stability of the drone. If the propeller damage is more serious, new propeller leaves need to be replaced.

Regular wax protection

Due to the current market for drones, their surface coating spraying process is used, so regular wax protection is required. Regular waxing on the surface of the body can not only make the drone more beautiful, but also form a protective film on it to protect the paint edified.
