What is smart flight battery
With BMS-designed drone batteries, it’s called a smart flight battery. BMS literally means that the battery plus management plus the system, is it really so simple? Quite rightly, that’s what engineers started designing BMS for. At present, the common BMS functions of lipo batteries on the market are voltage measurement, communication, SoC estimation, SoH estimation, anomaly warning, abnormal protection, current balance, control circuit, temperature measurement, current measurement.
Product features of smart flight battery
Use Tattu 12S drone battery as an example. Its standard voltage is 44.4v and its standard capacity ranges from 12,000mah to 40000mah. Smart power indication
The battery management system for the smart flight battery is designed with four highlightLED indicators that automatically identify the status and indicate the power when discharged or charged. When the battery is shut down, press the button shortly and the LED indicates that the battery is about 2S and then goes out.
Battery life indication
In the battery off state, the long button 5S or more, the power indicator shows the battery life description. The core can be used up to 500 times by default, and the LED light indicated by the battery counts the number of times the user has been used, indicating that the battery life is still available. Please use it as appropriate.
Charging Smart Alarm
During the charging process, the battery detects the status in real time, and alerts the charge overvoltage, overcurrent and overtemperature. Alarms are displayed as red and white lights are lit at the same time, and if not operated, the light indication is automatically turned off when it goes into sleep to avoid power consumption. When the keys are viewed, a warning is indicated again.
Low pressure or pressure differential alarm
When the smart flight battery is discharged, the BMS will flash the alarm if a low voltage (less than 3.3V) or a single cell core voltage difference greater than 50mV is detected.
Full power storage function
When a normal flying battery is not in use for a long time, the battery is self-consumption. At this time, a BMS-owning smart flight battery automatically activates the intelligent storage function, discharges to the storage voltage, to ensure the safety of battery storage.
Smart sleep function
When the smart flight battery is not in use, it will automatically hibernate after 10 minutes, saving battery power. If the user forgets to replenish the battery, when the single voltage is less than 3.58V, it will enter the deep energy-saving mode, can ensure that the battery safe storage for 5 months or so, if more than 5 months have not been used and did not replenish the power, based on safety considerations, will prohibit charging, to ensure safety.
Data communication function
Tattu smart flight battery design has I2C communication, follows the SMBUS protocol, can obtain real-time battery information through communication. For example, current voltage, current, battery usage, etc. Flight control can also be connected to this and communicate.
Battery logging function
Smart flight battery is designed with special logging capabilities that can record data for the entire life of the battery. The battery log information contains the single voltage, current, battery temperature, number of cycles, number of abnormal states, etc. Users can view this log data via the phone APP connection battery.
Battery self-heating function
When using the battery, the BMS automatically monitors the ambient temperature. When the ambient flight temperature is lower than the battery’s own discharge temperature, its interior automatically generates heat to bring the battery temperature to the flight temperature. To some extent, the smart flight battery ensures the normal flight of the drone.
